What is translated with Google Translate?
When using Google to translate the guardian dashboard, any static text on the page will be translated. The layer takes all of the text and automatically translates it from the English text directly within a user’s browser.
Google Translate is NOT a custom translation service. The browser widget can be thought of as an extension of going to translate.google.com and using the translation text box there with the Enroll platform text.
What is not translated with Google Translate?
Since Google Translate only translates the static text on the page, answer value options entered in the field editor for dropdown, radio button, and checkbox field types will not be translated. A recommended best practice to mitigate this Google Translate limitation is to provide a comma separated list of each answer option in the desired languages.
Gender answer options example:
- Male, Hombre, Masculin
- Female, Mujer, Féminin
- Non-binary, No binario, Non-binaire
Google Translate is not available for the administrative areas of Enroll. This means that email/text content cannot be translated on the back end. Translations of messages will only occur superficially in the guardian message center. Messages are still technically sent out in English, so emails and text messages read in the guardian’s personal email inbox or text message inbox will not be translated. Translations can only occur in the Enroll Message Center on the guardian dashboard.
What else do I need to know?
Google Translate will not always have accurate translations and may not always use the exact dialect that is required by your organization. Google Translate may also not have all required translation languages available in the translation widget layer. This is not something that SchoolMint is able to control or change.
If your organization requires language translations that are not provided by Google, or if translations must be as accurate as possible, it is highly recommended that custom translations are purchased and utilized instead of Google Translate.
