Learn which lottery run settings to use in Enroll to mirror the standard SchoolMint Legacy lottery functionality
Settings to run a randomized lottery in Enroll
Click the Lotteries icon in the top navigation bar. We recommend that you run the Lottery Readiness Check to ensure that all critical components are in place before running a lottery. Click the Run Lottery button to begin the process of configuring your lottery run.
Step One: Input the date range for your lottery eligible period. Only applications that were submitted in the specified date range and have been marked as eligible will be included in the lottery run.
- The "Lottery Eligible Date Range" that you select is what the SchoolMint legacy system considered as the "Open Enrollment" period
- The SchoolMint legacy system held all post-enrollment applications out of the lottery by default. In Enroll, you must select the proper date range to exclude applications received outside of your lottery eligible period
Step Two: Use the Sorting method: Random
- All lotteries in the SchoolMint legacy system were Random by default
Step Three: Confirm that the Merge Waitlist box is unchecked (disabled)
- This setting is available if you need to run more than 1 lottery and want to have the results of multiple lottery runs merged together based on priority
Step Four: Confirm that the Save Waiting List box is checked (enabled)
- All lotteries in the SchoolMint legacy system generated a waitlist by default if the number of applications in the lottery was greater than the number of Open Seats to be filled by the lottery
Step Five: Select the Program(s) to be included in your lottery
Step Six: Select the Grades to be included in your lottery for the Programs you selected
- In the SchoolMint legacy system, each grade had a separate `Run Lottery` button to click. In Enroll, the system will process all grades (one at a time) within the same lottery run - all with one click!
- It is important that all grades run a lottery (best to do all grades at once), even if there are 0 seats available. This saves the lottery and sorting settings in the system so that any post-lottery applications can be auto-added using those same settings (if desired).
Step Seven: Select the Placement Order (only applies to the lottery run)
- In the SchoolMint legacy system, you could click each grade's `Run Lottery` button in whatever order you desired.
- In Enroll, you have three options: start with lower grades, start with higher grades, or random.
- Consider if an entry grade might have more seats to fill, thereby possibly impacting more siblings applying to receive a preference.
Step Eight: Click Run Lottery for Selected Programs
-
- To confirm, type uppercase: RUN LOTTERY
Step Nine: From the Lottery Dashboard, click View to review each Program's lottery list results before publishing to ensure the list is order as desired
- You can publish the entire Lottery Run at once or by Grade

As always, test, test, test in your Sandbox site before running a lottery in production!
