Learn how to create Sibling Attending questions and priorities.
What's included in this article?
In Enroll, siblings are defined as 1) children within the same guardian account, and 2) who then answer a sibling question to meet the criteria to trigger a priority or flag. This article will review the Sibling Attending functionality in Enroll. To review the help article on Sibling Applying functionality, click here.
Siblings Step and Sibling Attending Question
"Sibling Attending" refers to an applicant that has a sibling already attending the program/school where the applicant is submitting an application.
When building your application form, we recommend that you create a distinct Sibling Step that will contain your sibling question(s).
The placement of the Sibling Step relative to other steps should be considered. We recommend the following order:
- first, capture the Program(s) Selection information, and
- next, capture Sibling information
This order allows you, if needed, to leverage advanced restrictions to show/hide the Sibling step based on the Program selected in the prior step.
To build a Sibling Attending question in a form, we recommend using the system-provided field type: Siblings Attending.
This pre-built block of data fields will collect by default the first name, last name, and date of birth of siblings.
The sibling’s grade, school name, and sibling’s SIS ID are additional fields that can be added to gather more detailed information to assist confirming the linked siblings.
For organizations that import all of their current students into Enroll (including their SIS ID), the Sibling SIS ID Lookup feature may be leveraged to assist your families. To review the help article on Sibling SIS ID Lookup, click here.

Sibling Attending Priority
Sibling Attending is a very common lottery priority used in lottery designs. To configure the logic of your Sibling Attending priority, navigate to Settings > Manage Lotteries > Lottery Priorities.
Enable the Automatically Set setting to display the rules engine that will assign the Sibling Attending priority when your conditions are met. Allow Override and Clear on Roll Over are also available to be enabled for this priority.
First, select the Add Condition option: Sibling,
Then, select the Sibling Status of Currently Attending, and finally, select one of the Sibling School options (per your lottery policy/process) to complete the logic.
For example, the Student Sibling is Currently Attending:
- Same School as the Program's School
- Any School in the Same Group as the Application's School
- Any School in the Organization
- The Following Schools
You may add other conditions to your Sibling Attending priority by adding an ANY or ALL statement + another criteria.
For example, the priority below would only be assigned to the application if the sibling is attending any school in the organization - AND - the student/applicant lives in the district boundary.
