Learn how to make ongoing offers to families post-lottery.
In Enroll, offers can only be made to students by placing them on a lottery list. There are two options for moving post-lottery applications to the lottery list:
- Option 1: Run a subsequent lottery pool to move post-lottery applications to the lottery list
- Option 2: Use the Auto-add setting + mark applications as Eligible in order you want them added to the lottery list
Option 1: Run a subsequent lottery pool to move post-lottery applications to the lottery list
If you continue to accept applications after your initial lottery, a subsequent lottery pool (or pools) may be run to move post-lottery applications onto your lottery list (offered or waiting).
This second lottery pool option provides a quick and streamlined process that creates a "copy" of the existing lottery list and adds any newly eligible post-lottery applications to the existing list in the order you determine with your lottery run settings.
Steps to run a subsequent lottery pool:
- Confirm that the post-lottery setting “Auto-add eligible applications to lottery list after initial lottery is run setting" is OFF. This setting is located in the Global Lottery Settings and can be managed for each Program individually, so confirm in both locations if you are unsure.
- Mark post-lottery applications as eligible (individually or in bulk); only eligible applications will be included in a lottery run.
- From the Lottery Dashboard page, click the "Run New Lottery" button to configure your settings for this second lottery pool.
- Select a Date Range
- Select the Sorting method:
- Random - post-lottery applications will be randomly placed within the sub-lottery group per your lottery design
- Date Submitted (No Priority Groups) - post-lottery applications will be added to the lottery list in date submitted order
- Date Submitted (Within Priority Groups) - post-lottery applications will be added added to the sub-lottery that corresponds to the highest priority on the application, and then in date submitted order
- Merge Waitlist:
- If Merge Waitlist is enabled/ON: applications being processed in the second lottery pool are added into the corresponding sub-lottery group of the waiting list based on priority, but behind those applications run in the initial lottery
- If Merge Waitlist is disabled/OFF: applications being processed in the second lottery pool are added to the end of the entire waiting list in priority order, behind all applications that were processed in the original lottery run
- Enable "Save Waiting List" if you have an existing waiting list or want one created by a second lottery pool
- Add the Programs and Grades (if you are using the auto-decline functionality across programs, but sure to include those programs in your second pool)
- Select your Placement Order, click Run Lottery for Selected Programs
- Type in RUN LOTTERY to confirm
From the Lottery Dashboard page, click View to review your lottery list results before publishing to ensure the list is in order as desired.

Option 2: Auto-add setting + mark applications as Eligible in order you want them added to the lottery list
The post-lottery setting "Auto-add eligible applications to lottery list after initial lottery is run" is an option that allows you to automatically move a post-lottery application, once it is marked as eligible, to the next available position on the lottery list.
- If space is available on the Offered list, eligible applications will be auto-added there until the cutoff number is met
- If the Offered list has met the cutoff number, eligible applications will be auto-added to the Waiting list
This post-lottery setting may be managed from two locations:
- Globally (same setting for all programs): Settings > Manage Lotteries > Lottery Settings > Global
- Program-specific: Settings > Schools/Programs > Manage Programs > Edit > Lottery Settings tab
When "Auto-add eligible applications to lottery list after initial lottery is run" setting is enabled:
Applications will be added to the lottery list in the order that they are marked as eligible by an admin. To maintain control and determine the order in which applications are added to the lottery list using the Auto-Add setting, applications should be marked as eligible one at a time in the order they should be placed on the lottery list.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: When applications are marked as eligible IN BULK, applications are added to the lottery list in the order of Application ID lowest to highest. Application ID is generated when a family starts an application, not when it is submitted.
If using the Auto-Add setting + the internal setting "Always Keep Lottery Lists Grouped by Lottery Design", applications will be placed on the waiting list in the sub-lottery that corresponds to the highest priority on the application. In most cases, these applications will be placed in the sub-lottery behind existing applications that were run in the initial lottery. Read this article for exceptions to this ordering behavior.
- Note: "Always Keep Lottery Lists Grouped by Lottery Design" setting must be enabled by SchoolMint staff. Please reach out to your Customer Experience Manager or Technical Support with any questions
If only using the Auto-Add setting (and not "Always Keep Lottery Lists grouped by Lottery Design"), each auto-added application will be added to the very end of the lottery list in the order it is marked as eligible
When are notifications sent to families placed on the lottery list via Auto-add?
When an application is moved to a published lottery list using the auto-add setting, the placement is not automatically published and no notifications are sent to families. The published lottery run will revert to partially published for the grade(s) that have had post-lottery applications auto-added.
The lottery will need to be re-published by selecting the Publish Lottery Run button or publishing in bulk. No families who were previously notified of their placement will receive a new email; only newly added placements will receive emails.
